Appreciation in your day
When we feel overwhelmed and things are difficult, we can easily forget that we are actually doing an amazing job at managing whatever it is that is going on. Even when we feel we are not managing well at all – we are managing!
See if in the midst of what is going on for you, you can see all the positive things that are here. These might be tiny, like a cup of tea or just the fact that the sun is shining. See if you can open your mind just a little to take in the beauty and pleasant things that are here. Thanks to our negativity bias this can be hard, especially when we are in the midst of anxiety. Try it anyway. Even if it feels a bit contrived.
Try the following:
- At the end of the day, write down all the pleasant things of that day
- See if you can think back of that moment and try to ‘relive’ it and be aware of:
- Your body sensations
- Your emotions
- Your thoughts
